A trip to Thailand, March 2010

We love to travel and to eat, so what better place to go than Thailand?  We planned a nearly three-week tour of Bangkok, Chiang-Mai and Phuket, and had many adventures along the way.  Here you see us with Aura, our elephant for the day at a park outside Chiang-Mai.  Who knew you could get so dirty riding an elephant?!  That's why they made us wear the wacky outfits, since we took a bath at the end of the day...with Aura in a giant pool.

One of our last days in Thailand, we went on a sea canoeing trip to see the karsts in Phang Nga Bay.  Karsts are limestone rock formations that stick up from the water, and have lagoons inside.  When the tides are right, you can navigate a canoe or kayak through a series of caves to get inside the lagoons, where monkeys play around.

Without my knowing it, Kiran made special arrangements with the sea canoeing guides.  They brought me a bouquet of roses, so I knew something was up.  As part of the guided tour, we made luminaries to float on the water, and make a wish with.  When we were in the middle of a lagoon, under the stars, Kiran lit the luminary and asked me to marry him, and we wished for a happy future together as we watched the luminary float away.

Is there any way Kiran could have planned a more romantic engagement memory?  I don't think it's possible.  Luckily, he waited until later to give me a ring, or he might've accidentally dropped it overboard!
